NTPC Achieves Major Milestone in Gujarat Solar Projects

NTPC Limited, through its subsidiary NTPC Green Energy Limited, has announced a significant achievement in its renewable energy journey. On June 28, 2025, the company declared the commercial operation of two key solar power capacities in Gujarat under its step-down subsidiary, NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL). This marks a major stride towards India’s green energy ambitions.

First Phase of 450 MW Hybrid Tranche V Project Goes Live

The first part of the capacity, totaling 142.2 MW, of the 300 MW Khavda Solar Energy Project under the 450 MW Hybrid Tranche V Project has been declared commercially operational. This project is located in the sun-rich region of Khavda, Gujarat, and represents a key element in NTPC REL’s hybrid power strategy. By blending solar with other renewable sources, NTPC aims to ensure consistent energy supply while reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

Progress in Khavda-I Solar PV Project

Simultaneously, NTPC REL has declared the commercial operation of the second part of capacity amounting to 146.7 MW out of the massive 1255 MW Khavda-I Solar PV Project. This project is among the largest solar initiatives in India, reinforcing NTPC’s commitment to expanding solar capacity on a grand scale. With this declaration, NTPC Green Energy Limited continues to push forward the commissioning of this mega project in stages.

Commitment to Renewable Energy Expansion

These developments are part of NTPC’s broader vision to become a leading force in the renewable energy sector. The phased commissioning of solar capacities not only reflects meticulous project planning and execution but also aligns with India’s goals of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030. NTPC, traditionally known for its thermal power dominance, has been making a concerted shift toward cleaner sources of energy, and these COD declarations are testimony to its transformation.

Looking Ahead

As NTPC continues to harness Gujarat’s solar potential, its renewable energy footprint is set to expand rapidly. These projects not only contribute to the national grid but also create local employment opportunities, promote sustainable development, and reduce carbon emissions.

With each milestone, NTPC solidifies its position as a pivotal player in India’s energy transition journey, paving the way for a greener and more sustainable future.
